IARC lead scientist says radiofrequency should be now PROBABLE carcinogen

Studies since IARC designation of RF as class 2b potential carcinogen mean today it should be class 2a, PROBABLE carcinogen, says Dr. Anthony Miller, who worked on assessing the studies for IARC's class 2b decision in 2011.

Other scientists and epidemiologists think that the clear building evidence means RF should be now put into Group 1: a definite carcinogen.

Logic would tell us that whether it is a potential, probable or definite cancer-causing agent, non-thermal RF is not an emission that should be spread in the additive, haphazard manner that is in process - throwing precautions to the wind. But isn't that human nature when it comes to our greed and one-sided vision of how we want the world to be? Like Big Tobacco, Big Wireless continues to possibly, probably or definitely poison the population - although at least, with tobacco a person could escape its reach. Not so with wireless radiation.

Blood Brain Barrier – requires 18 months to form and protects the brain from toxins. It is known to be effected.

Myelin Sheath – requires 22 years to build its 122 layers. It is responsible for all thinking, organ and muscle processes.

Brain – requires 20 years to develop (I can assure you, cell phones do not help in its development).

Immune System – requires 18 years to develop. Bone marrow and Bone Density are known to be affected by low-level microwaves as are the immune systems’ white blood cells.

Bones – requires 28 years to develop – as mentioned the moisture content of children makes both the ‘soft bones’ and marrow particularly attractive to microwave irradiation. Bone marrow produces blood cells.

Clearly, our decision makers are overlooking a child illness pandemic hitherto unknown in our 40,000 generations of civilization; which can involve over a half of the World’s exposed mothers / children.

The question remains if anyone will listen in time, or if the world needs to first witness the devastating impact on children and their progeny - with human dna likely damaged irreparably forever - to end the wireless proliferation frenzy, especially Wi-Fi in schools and smart gadget exposures.

De-Kun Li: indomitable scientist finds EMF impacts: obesity, asthma, sperm damage

Called the "last man standing" among U.S. environmental epidemiologists working on electromagnetic frequencies research, Dr. De-Kun Li continues to break ground in science exploring biological impacts of RF and magnetic radiation exposures. Unlike other scientists who had studied these impacts, he studies the effects in real time, where exposures are measured as they occur. This is called a prospective study, while in retrospective studies "epidemiologists attempt to estimate exposures and conditions that occurred in the past, sometimes many years later."

One year ago Li found that prenatal EMF exposure can cause obesity in children. His earlier studies linked EMF exposure to asthma and decline in sperm quality. In December 2012 the scientist filed testimony before the Maine Public Utility Commission regarding the issues of smart meter safety. He was asked if science supports the conclusion that wireless smart meters are safe. His expert response was, "No."

The previous year (2011) Dr. Li was one of the experts asked to submit input to the California Council on Science and Technology (CCST) for their health study on smart meters. Li's identifying and contact information must have been removed from his letter at the CCST site because it appears in full at another site.   Furthermore, you must have the URL to locate his letter at CCST because their search is "temporarily down." Plus on the "publications" page you can only find the CCST summary with their own bias on it. The page that includes Li and other experts' input is here, and took some digging to find.

So, what was so threatening about Dr. Li's input about smart meter safety to have to try to suppress it? The scientist simply describes how current FCC's RF exposure standards do not protect the public from biological effects and damage. Consequently, chronic smart meter exposures put people at risk.

This is a kamikaze book, and would, if it got the attention it deserved, eviscerate the cell phone industry. If I were Robert C. Kane, I'd hire a bodyguard. The men behind the megabucks being raked in by the wireless industry can't be happy about a book like this. In lucid, readable, decisive prose, Kane, an industry insider, systematically dismantles the wireless industry's pretense of product safety. There is no pussyfooting around here about how there "may" be health concerns, as the February issue of Consumer Reports puts it. Kane starts right in on page one by stating, "Talking on a cellular phone can be likened to holding a microwave oven to one's head." Check out the last two chapters, "Public Deception I" and "Public Deception II", and the quotes from Carl Sagan and Ayn Rand. Powerful stuff. And then throw away your cell phone.

Book journalists need to read August 17, 2007

In Cellular Telephone Russian Roulette, author Robert Kane, a former top Motorola engineer, traces the history of cell phone development (in which he was involved) and analyzes the cell phone radiation bioeffects research base from 1950 to 1996.

Despite industry's claim to safety, Kane's report suggests that there was much more information available indicating safety concerns than the industry has ever acknowledged.

The work includes a review of:

· The foundations of radiofrequency (RF) radiation research (starting with radar).

· The discoveries of bioeffects from RF exposure as early as the 1970's, and the discovery of "hot spots" in the brains of mobile phone users.

· The industry's influence on "safe" exposure guidelines in order to meet its own product needs.

· The ways research design can be manipulated to bias the outcome of lab studies.

· The red-herring requirement by industry that research must identify a single biological causation mechanism for adverse health effects from RF exposure before science can say there is proven harm.

·The emergence of a PR campaign to mask the risks of cell phone radiation to the user.

It needs a good index and some section headings, but this book is jam-packed with information, much of which you won't find anywhere else. It will be of interest to those who have already gained some familiarity with the RF radiation health issue and are not put off by some of the technical terms used (megahertz, S.A.R., etc.). Serious readers may begin to smell more-than-feint traces of tobacco.

Another good book to dig up is Nicholas Steneck's 1984 science-and-values overview of "The Microwave Debate" which shows there has been some concern about RF radiation's ability to affect biology for quite some time.

History of Microwave Mania: Silent Wireless Spring says it all

Anti-microwave radiation trail blazer Arthur Firstenberg exposes the calculated moves by powerful groups in the U.S. and internationally to push forward with a technology that has been proven for decades to be extremely harmful to living creatures. Firstenberg is a founding father, who early on spread the sane and sobering truth about where we are headed. His 2007 article speaks about the dangerous place we are today, despite the willful ignorance of those who refuse to see.

He writes:

One can imagine two very different futures. In one, these stories appear on the front pages of The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. The Food and Drug Administration suspends cell phone sales, and the Federal Communications Commission shuts down cell towers. Cities stop building Wi-Fi networks. Internet cafes dismantle antennas and install cables. Public service announcements tell people to put wires back on their home phones and computers. Wireless technology takes a place in history beside other mistakes like lead water pipes, asbestos insulation, thalidomide and DDT.

In the other future nothing changes. The news media continue to ignore those stories, and many others like them. Governments issue no warnings, and take no steps to protect the public or the environment.

We are waist-deep in "the other future." Add in many consumers' growing dependence on and addiction to cell phone products and apps, plus utility, educational and medical groups at the alter of wireless technology, and maybe we are neck-deep?

Many people have symptoms of Radiofrequency Sickness/Microwave Sickness but are unaware of the environmental cause. The growing number of people realizing they have this sensitivity must deal with a culture that would rather ridicule their sensitivity or call it psychological than take in the truth. We are a consumer culture and people like their stuff. They like to point out that all these microwave devices are legal. Of course, this is due to morbidly outdated and lax federal standards. The questions remain: Are we a stupid culture, unable to understand new information, even with facts staring us in the face? Are we a gullible culture that believes what the authorities tell us even if our experience says otherwise? Are we a cruel and selfish culture that wants what we want no matter what affect it has on others? Before these questions can be wholly answered, the culture must be exposed to the truth and given a chance to understand. And that it where Mr. Firstenberg and the rest of us are working.

Theodore A. Litovitz, 82, a Catholic University physics professor and prolific inventor who discovered a way to store nuclear waste more safely, created an electronic chip to shield cellphone users from harmful electromagnetic radiation and developed some of the early fiber optics now used for telecommunications, died of complications of kidney cancer May 1 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis.

Dr. Litovitz held 25 patents, and from those inventions several businesses were born. He co-founded Catholic University's Vitreous State Laboratory, where hundreds of students learned the basics of working with materials in a glasslike, amorphous solid state.

One of the companies he co-founded, now known as Duratek Inc. in Columbia, arose out of his research at the laboratory. Dr. Litovitz, with Pedro B. Macedo, discovered how to immobilize radioactive waste by making it part of a durable glasslike solid in a process called vitrification. The process, which Duratek sells, is expected to save 20 years and $20 billion in cleanup costs at the government's Hanford Nuclear Reservation alone.

He was known among his colleagues as "a force of nature" for his relentless but engaging interest in people and ideas. A lover of coffee breaks, he used the time to talk about the potential applications of basic research to problems that popped up in the media.

"He was one of those people who always wanted to learn," said his daughter, Toby Litovitz of Potomac. "He was on a cruise in Alaska, and for something to read, picked up a high school biology book. He came back with an idea that turned out to be seminal in the field, how electromagnetics worked in a cell."

His interest in physics was triggered as a Navy radar repair technician during World War II, and although he was educated in the field of acoustics, his intellectual curiosity led him into fiber optics, glasses and electromagnetics.

"His science was very much grounded in the topics of the time," said Joanne Smith-Farrell, an executive at Gene Logic Inc., who was his last doctoral student and often found herself under questioning about the interests of her generation. "His inspiration came from living and experiencing the world."

His most recent work centered on the effects of electromagnetic radiation on organisms. The field had been characterized by controversy and inconclusive findings when Dr. Litovitz noticed a Swedish researcher's tantalizing report of increased incidences of brain cancer in people who used cellphones for more than 2,000 hours. The cancer also seemed to occur on the side of the face where the phone was held.

Dr. Litovitz began experimenting with eggs, said Macedo, who is director of the Catholic University lab. He discovered that the type of electromagnetic radiation emitted from cellphones or power lines can cause biological changes at the cellular level. That radiation, he found, could be masked by superimposing electrical white noise. So he developed and patented an electronic chip that could be attached to cellphones and override the radiation.

His research, published in the Journal of Cellular Biology in 2002, caused a stir among cellphone users torn between the emerging science and reassurances from phone companies. Dr. Litovitz, however, did not hesitate to stake out a position.

"These findings have important implications with regards to potential health effects from prolonged or repeated exposure to mobile-phone radiation,'' he told a trade journal, RCR Wireless News. "Because stress proteins are involved in the progression of a number of diseases, heavy daily cell-phone usage could lead to great incidence of disorders such as Alzheimer's and cancer.''

At a 1993 scientific meeting, he was asked to explain why he persisted in a field where so many others had failed.

"It was just youthful exuberance," he quipped. "I was only 66 at the time. Now that I'm 70 and mature, I might not have tried it."

The New York native moved to Washington at the age of 2 and grew up in an apartment above his parents' grocery store at Third and O streets NW. He graduated from the old Central High School and attended George Washington University until his studies were interrupted by World War II.

After returning from the South Pacific, he graduated from Catholic University, where in 1950 he also received a doctoral degree in physics. He immediately began working at the university and soon co- wrote a standard reference book, "Absorption and Dispersion ofUltrasonic Waves" (1959), with his mentor, physicist Karl Herzfeld.

Under contract to the government during the Vietnam War, Dr. Litovitz and Macedo built an infrared transmitting window used in a U-2 spy plane. In the 1970s, in competition with giant Corning Glass Co., the pair developed a cheap glass fiber intended to replace copper wire, a giant leap to the fiber optics revolution.

Dr. Litovitz published more than 130 scientific research papers, and after 48 years, when he retired from teaching in 1998, he said, "I hope no one will think I can't stick to a job." He continued to work as a researcher until his death. He also was helping to found another biotechnology company.

In addition to his daughter, survivors include his wife of 59 years, Charlotte Litovitz of Annapolis; a son, Gary Litovitz of McLean; and four grandchildren.
